Image
Black and white photo of a large military ship with zig-zag camouflage. Soldiers sit and stand all around the ship's deck, posing for the photo. The caption below states "DIVISION FOURTEEN, UNITED STATES SUBMARINE FOURCE: U.S.S. BEAVER, TENDER | U.S.S. R-15, R-16, R-17, R-18, R-19, R-20

In this lesson, students will be introduced to the concept of camouflage generally, learn how “dazzle ship” camouflage was invented and implemented during WWI, read a letter about another type of camouflage from the perspective of a soldier, and finally practice creating camouflage of their own.
