Museum and Memorial guests will soon be able to wander a simulated street in WWI-era Paris, following the stories of Parisians from the “Belle Époque” (“Beautiful Era”) of pre-war French cultural achievement to its transformation into a frontline city.
Stories come to life from the City of Lights: the mobilization of troops in the city, the hardships borne by Parisians and the arrival of masses of American troops, culminating with the fateful Paris Peace Conference of 1919.
The diverse selection of artifacts is supported by authentic voices from the past who describe in detail their experiences of living and working in Paris during this tumultuous time. The iconic architecture of the city – shops, cafés and street scenes – is reflected in the exhibition design, which creates an immersive experience.
These objects and stories – combined with historical images, quotes, sound recordings and original film footage – together deliver a unique exhibition experience that transports visitors to wartime Paris.
Paris at War opens to the public on Nov. 6, 2025.
