The National WWI Museum and Memorial, in partnership with KultureCity, is officially sensory-inclusive certified. As one of over 1,800 certified locations in the U.S., the Museum and Memorial’s Sensory Inclusive program is designed to help guests with different sensory needs due to PTSD, autism, dementia, stroke or any other reason feel welcomed in cultural spaces.

This program includes the following features:

  • New signage indicating sound volume levels, including quiet spaces and locations that include loud sounds.
  • Sensory bags that can be borrowed free of charge from Guest Services. These special bags include noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, a KCVIP lanyard and feeling thermometer cards.
  • Staff training to help provide awareness and assistance for visitors with sensory needs.
  • Visitors can download the KultureCity app to accompany their visit. The app indicates what to expect on the visit, where quiet spaces can be found, which interactive exhibits might be best experienced with headphones and other information to create a more comfortable visit.

Guests are also able to look through a step-by-step guide, including how to purchase a ticket, how to navigate the building and what amenities are available during their visit. These measures help to ensure the best guest experience for those with sensory needs.
