Saint Javelin exhibition extended through summer at the National WWI Museum and Memorial

03/10/2023

The National WWI Museum and Memorial is pleased to announce that the display of the original painting of Saint Javelin has been extended to Sept. 10, 2023. The painting by artist Chris Shaw, on loan from Christian Borys, has been on exhibition since Oct. 2022 along with WWI-era prints providing historical context from the Museum and Memorial’s collection.

March 2022 saw the viral rise of Saint Javelin as a symbol for Ukrainian resistance to Russian invasion. The 21st-century icon continues a tradition begun in the Great War of Christian saint imagery being mass-produced for public consumption during wartime.
