Our second day starts at a German trench hidden in the forest before journeying to Seichsprey for an exploration of the notorious trench raid. Lunch will be taken in the town of Pont-à-Mousson, where the American Ambulance Field Service was honored with a memorial in the town square. In the afternoon, we will follow the American assault on the Saint-Mihiel salient, ending at the inspiring American cemetery at Thiaumont.

Thursday, Sept. 6

Meuse-Argonne

After leaving the Saint-Mihiel, we will drive across the battlefield of Verdun and start our visit to Meuse-Argonne by ascending the ABMC Memorial Tower at Montfaucon to view the southern part of the battlefield. After lunch, we will journey to the location of the gun battery commanded by Capt. Harry S. Truman and then on to the Butte de Vauquois, the target of his guns. We will follow the American advance and see where Col. George Patton was wounded while urging his tanks into action.

Friday, Sept. 7

The Meuse-Argonne saw extraordinary acts of bravery – from the Lost Battalion, Sgt. Alvin York, Private John Lewis Barkley – pilgrimages to the sites of these acts will form the core of the day’s activities, culminating in a visit to the largest American war cemetery in Europe at Romagne-sous-Montfaucon.

Saturday, Sept. 8

After completing our exploration of the Meuse-Argonne, we will travel to the memorial at Blanc Mont which commemorates the 70,000 American soldiers who served in this region before retiring to our hotel at Chateau Thierry.
