The first program of American Public Square at Jewell’s Civility Examined series, “Speaking Freely” will address the question of whether free speech is undermining American democracy or is essential to its survival. The United States has debated answers for more than a century, since joining WWI to “make the world safe for democracy.”
Join us for a thought-provoking panel discussion moderated by Margaret Talev (director of Syracuse University’s Institute for Democracy, Journalism and Citizenship) exploring free speech in America – its evolution, its definition and its impact on politics, education and the daily lives of U.S. residents.
