Ring of Fire: A New History of the World at War: 1914

Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025 | 5:30 p.m. reception, 6:30 p.m. program Auditorium and Online

Understanding the complexities of a global conflict can be difficult. Over the last century, the impact and scale of the First World War has been oversimplified and underestimated by focusing on two main theaters – the Western and Eastern Fronts – and by using sources from only one language, mostly English.

In their newest book “Ring of Fire: A New History of the World at War: 1914,” Alexandra Churchill (historian and Great War Group co-founder) and Nicolai Eberholst (archivist) strive to rebalance common conceptions of WWI, drawing on primary source materials in over twenty languages. Join them in conversation as they explore their research and uncover new insights from the war's inaugural year.
