Remembering 9/11: A Day of Reflection

On the 25th anniversary of the event, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is transporting an authentic World Trade Center steel beam across the United States, bringing remembrance directly to Americans and connecting generations through a powerful symbol of service and sacrifice. An 11 a.m. ceremony will welcome the beam. The public is invited to visit throughout the day and pay respects. A mobile museum will be in the West Visitors Lot on Aug. 5-6.

In the evening, at 7 p.m., the Kansas City Symphony Mobile Music Box will play a concert in the Memorial Mall, followed by Taps at the Tower in a brief, moving ceremony at 8:25 p.m. at the base of the Tower. St. Andrew Kansas City Pipe and Drum will play a concert following Taps.

About the mobile museum:

The 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit is a tribute to all who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, including the 343 members of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) who made the ultimate sacrifice, and all who continue to lose their lives to 9/11-related illnesses. This high-tech, 83-foot tractor-trailer, which transforms into an 1,100 square foot exhibit, is a tool to further educate people across the country about the events of that tragic day.

Welcomed around the nation, from the Black Hills of South Dakota to the Tennessee State Fairgrounds, the memorial provides interactive education; including artifacts such as steel beams from the towers, documentary videos, and recordings of first responder radio transmissions. Interactive guided tours are carried out by FDNY firefighters who provide firsthand accounts of the day and its aftermath. The 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit, which has traveled to nearly 50 states and Canada, has educated over 1 million people to date.
