Lawrence Lecture Series: The ‘Earthly Paradise’ at Clouds Hill

Sunday, April 23 - 2 p.m. Zoom Conference

Every day from spring to fall, a steady stream of fascinated sightseers files through a tiny cottage in rural Dorset close to Britain’s south coast, trying to catch a glimpse into the life of one of the most extraordinary – and famous – figures of the early twentieth century. 100 years after he first rented it in 1923, the home of T.E. Lawrence still attracts over 10,000 visitors a year. Tony Gill, Neill Child and Martin Gething, members of the team of staff and volunteers who welcome visitors to Clouds Hill, will discuss how Lawrence converted an abandoned and uncared-for cottage into his ‘earthly paradise.’
