FYI Book Group: The Facemaker (Aug. 15)

Tuesday, Aug. 15 - 6:30 p.m. Linda Hall Library

Join the Kansas City Public Library, in partnership with The Kansas City Star, the National WWI Museum and Memorial and Linda Hall Library for this a book- of-the-moment selection of "The Facemaker" for discussion in Kansas City’s FYI Book Group.

WWI brought technological marvels and a newfound terror to the twentieth century. Many soldiers did not return home and many who did were burned, battered, and broken in unimaginable ways. One pioneering plastic surgeon, Harold Gillies, dedicated himself to healing the soldiers in his care. His efforts to repair faces led to miraculous strides in medicine and restored the damaged spirits of soldiers. Gillies's story is compelling and inspiring, a blend of science, imagination, and art.

Copies of the book will be provided to participants in advance of the discussion date.
