Beyond the Trenches | Killing Lenin, Stopping a Revolution: Spies, Subterfuge and a Secret Plot
In the final months of WWI, a group of British, American and French spies conceived a plan to overthrow Russia’s new communist government and kill its revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin. Their goal to stop the formation of the Soviet Union went unfulfilled.
Initiated by Robert Bruce Lockhart – Britain’s “Agent” in Russia – and the so-called “Ace of Spies” Sidney Reilly, this plan could have altered the trajectory of the 20th century. James Crossland, historian and author of “Rogue Agent: From Secret Plots to Psychological Warfare, the Untold Story of Robert Bruce Lockhart,” will investigate the “Lockhart Plot”: the first clash between Russia and the West in a secret conflict that continues to this day.
